A City in Transit (1997)

A City in Transit records the evolution of transportation in Naperville. From bike to train, automobile to airplane this panoramic mural offers a glimpse into Naperville life from a bird’s-eye view of downtown.

Naperville’s early twentieth-century car dealers are clustered around a bend in the DuPage River and an old buggy sits abandoned outside the DuPage Garage Company. As a boy rides his bike, a woman takes a stroll, and cars of every vintage are spotted around town. Across the way, the Burlington Zephyr comes to a stop at the Naperville station and six plains from the Lima Lima Flight Team soar overhead.

The Mural is an exceptional example of dynamic symmetry, a technique that began with the great Mexican muralist David Siqueiros.
