Ladder of Light (2018)

“Ladder of Light” was unveiled at Firemen’s Memorial Park on the 50th anniversary of a tragic accident that took the lives of four Naperville firefighters. The collaborative project between the Naperville Fire Department, City of Naperville, and Century Walk commemorates the sacrifice of Richard Rechenmacher, Jerry Herring, Bernard Petrowski, and G.S. Winckler, who were killed in a collision with a semi-trailer truck on route to a house fire west of the city on Monday, Dec. 7, 1970. Two beams of light, only visible at night, simulate the vertical rails of a ladder and conceptually re-animate these fallen local heroes.
