The Great Concerto (2006)

The Great Concerto traces the history of music in Naperville. Like notes in a musical score, the images pulsate across the vast canvas, establishing a rhythm of highs and lows guided by the conductor’s hand. Similar to other great concertos, this, too, is composed of three movements – the past, the present, and the future. Elmer Koerner, conductor of the municipal band from 1929 to 1965, is depicted large than life at center stage, and below, emcee Ann Lord stands firmly at the microphone. The 51 portraits of community members in the crowd were commissioned to raise funds for the project.
