Dick Tracy (2010)

Larger than life, the crime-fighting legend Dick Tracy watches over the Riverwalk. Local artist Dick Locher created the original 11-inch-tall clay maquette and later worked with Donald Reed to transform the model into this dynamic sculpture.

The comic strip first appeared in the Detroit Mirror in 1931 and was later distributed nationwide by the Chicago Tribune Syndicate. From Woodstock (IL), Chester Gould wrote and illustrated Dick Tracy until 1977. Naperville resident and Chicago Tribune editorial cartoonist, Dick Locher, assisted Gould from 1957-1961 and later took over as artist and writer.
