Horse Market Days
Horse Market Days is situated outside the Pre-Emption House, where horse auctions took place over a century ago. This snapshot cast in bronze animates a fleeting interaction between three figures; a young boy grasps the lead rope of a large horse that has just been startled by a barking dog. The sculpture recalls memories of a former time when auctioneers, farmers, and horse traders from across the region would gather here to barter, bid, and trade.
On a symbolic level, the boy stands for Naperville’s unbound potential, the horse – for thriving industry and determination, and the dog – for the community’s vivacity and spirit.
