The Printed Word (1996)
The Printed Word mural was painted by Timm Etters using an airbrush technique in 1996. The open-air mural portrays David Gilver, James Nichols I, Harold Moser, as well as Harold and Eva White – all seminal figures in bringing the printed word to Naperville throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries demonstrating the evolution of the publishing industry from paper-based to digital media.
Etters inspirational journey as an artist began after his diagnosis of life-threatening testicular cancer at the age of 16. Etters used the money sent to him from friends and family in the hospital to buy his first airbrush. Today, over 275 commissioned murals by Etters inspire residents of the Chicago area.
