Genevieve (1999)

In this sculpture by Pamela Carpenter, Naperville author and historian Genevieve Brayton Towsley is portrayed at the age of 72 sitting on a park bench writing in a notebook with an open space beside inviting visitors to sit with Genevieve and glance at the notes for her next story.

The author is best known for her work as a columnist for the Naperville Clarion and later for the Naperville Sun for her “Grapevine” column and “Sky-Lines,” a carefully researched series of articles that became a fascinating archive of Naperville’s past. This legacy is reflected in the grapevine pattern embroidered on the seam of her sweater. The sculpture is positioned near the entrance to a bookstore, a short distance from the original location of the Naperville Clarion and Naperville Sun.
