River of Life (1999)

Over 300 local students of Naperville Junior High and High Schools participated in the making of this hand painted ceramics mural that celebrates the diversity of Naperville life at the end of the twentieth century.

The four clay-relief story quilts showcase memories, experiences, and hopes of Naperville’s youth, united by a river that runs through all four quilts with the words: “Naperville friends and families are like streams that flow into and energize the river of life.”

Designed and Created by ceramics class students from Naperville Community Unit School District 203 represent the cultural diversity inspired by the storytelling quilts hand painted by internationally renowned artist and author Faith Ringgold, who attended the dedication ceremony.
