Heartland Harvest (1997)

Heartland Harvest reflects Naperville’s rich farming history, paying homage to the farm families and cultivated lands that facilitated growth and development of the community.

This 80-square-foot artwork was designed by artists Kathleen Scarboro and Kathleen Farrell and installed with the help of more than 25 community volunteers. Scenes of soybean, oat, wheat, barley and corn-filled landscapes and the natural cycle of life and the seasons of the prairie state are reflected within the intricate placement of Italian glass tiles.

Today Kathleen Farrell and Kathleen Scarboro still work together fostering public art and preserving local history in Joliet (IL) through the organization Friends of Community Public Art in Joliet.
