River Reveries (1996)

River Reveries captures the changing seasons along the DuPage River on a pair of mosaic benches, reminiscent of the popular upholstered lounges produced by Kroehler Manufacturing – one of Naperville’s largest employers of the last century.

Inspired by the Spanish Architect Antoni Gaudi, Hereth’s technique deliberately combines an array of broken ceramic tiles collected while teaching in foreign countries, donated by members of the community, or scavenged at local thrift stores into a patchwork melange that reflects the vibrancy and diversity of Naperville’s community. Born in Lansing Michigan, Jennifer Hereth has traveled the world teaching and learning indigenous art and rituals of other cultures.
